Nail Mixology aka Trip Down Memory Lane

Growing up as a kid I totally loved painting my nails! Nothing has changed here as you can tell! I had a large caboodle full of my many different colored nail polishes including some of my own weird color mixes that I made. I didn’t limit my painting skills to my nails either I am pretty sure there was some inanimate objects that were claimed in the name of art.

My parents weren’t a big fan of some of my larger art projects and I’m sure there was a few spots of nail polish permanently dyed into various areas of the bathroom; however if it really bothered them they should probably not have kept buying me nail polish.

Ahhh the good ol’ days. Maybe once I build up my nail polish collection again I will revive my old mixing skills….I’m out of a camera for a couple days so you will have to wait to see/read my review of my August Julep box that arrived in the mail today. In the meantime here is a cute picture of me as a kid. Awwww!

The Hunt For the Perfect Orange Scarf! Huzzah!

Ok so today started the search for the perfect orange scarf for fall. I’ve yet to add orange to my collection of scarves and this year I simply must have it! So I’ve narrowed it down so far to 3 different possibilities (photos are linked to the etsy pages I found them on). Just for fun I am going to throw a vote out there to see what scarf you think I have picked. Is there a prize? Um well a future blog post with me featuring the scarf in a fab fall outfit!? That is totally a prize right? Treat for me, treat for you. So here are the candidates:

May the best voter choose? I’m not good at verbal rhetoric, but you get the picture. Can’t wait to see what you think and then share what it is I went for!

Sleepy Hollow

So my first box of Julep came (not my August box, but my 2nd order I made after ordering my first box) and it is the Crackle Craze set that (after viewing a much needed tutorial) I have fallen in love with the crackle nail style! These were not easy nail colors to capture properly in photos due to the very sparkly/shiny, but I’m still new to trying to photograph my nails. I promise it will improve! The orange and white are my favorite as it makes me think of gnarly trees. I’m definitely ready for fall/Halloween/my birthday xD

ImageI started out with Orly Nail Defense as a first layer for a smooth start. Then applied two coats of Fantasy Makers Rest in Pieces(purchased last year from Shopko, don’t judge) for a nice under coat so that the black with purple sparkles would pop with the brighter colors.

This is 3 of the 4 that come in the Crackle set. The black one would not have worked with the black under coat that I wanted so I left that to be used another time. This set I think worked out well with what I chose.

ImageThe middle nail. I loved the white. Silver was harder to capture so I apologize for no example. BTW I do not have salon quality nails nor do I care, keeping it real 😉

ImageMy thumb nail which I love the most because it looks so spooky and pumpkin-y. Yay!

My Favorite Hair Secret Revealed!

So once upon a time I had this jerk of a boyfriend but as with any relationship there is always something you take away from it. Other than the obvious lesson he did lead me to my favorite hair product Playclay by Claypac.

My hair is naturally curly but as many others like me can affirm this also means naturally frizzy. So here is my little demo of what it does for me. This works for wet and dry hair (I prefer to use it on dry hair).

Here is my freshly washed curls. As you can see my frizz is in effect.

Now taking a dime sized amount of playclay (the size of the tip of your ring finger). Wipe it into the center of your palm and add a small amount of water from the tap. Just enough to rub it between your hands and comb through your hair. You can reapply water because it usually leaves a little behind. I can usually do this a few times.

Voila perfectly coiffed curls! (There is still a little frizz, but its not as intense)

For what you use it lasts at least a year if not longer depending how often you are fighting frizz for me its every week or two.

Big oOo on the Nail Front

So I just discovered Julep.com which is an awesome website. They are among the new business venture of businesses boxing up all sorts of neat deals (this in particular catered to your style) that you pay a low monthly fee for (Which you can cancel at anytime! Oh yea and they are 4 free!). Personally I LOVE getting stuff in the mail as well and when its beauty products I love it even more, because I love to share! Did I mention that they also put some of the money from purchases towards helping out organizations that support woman, GIRL POWER YO! Plus its just fun to sparkle don’t you agree? I’m so excited to receive my first box! Stay tuned for reviews on the Julep front!

Nail Forgiveness

Nail polish and I have a love hate relationship mostly due to my lack of proper nails. My nails are a few crayons short of a full box or however that phrase goes. Not one nail  shape matches the other and they also break super easily.

Recently I forgave the nail polish industry because frankly they will never be able to fix my nail problem no matter how awesome the color. So almost every week I’ve been experimenting with the plethora of new nail polish color.

Today’s post is demonstrating the awesome fusia color of Sally Hansen’s Insta-dry “Insta Iris”

Please excuse my deformed nails. I displayed the best one. Shhh don’t tell the others she is my favorite.
